Major Energy and its affiliate subsidiary, Respond Power, have been approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to sell electricity and natural gas to both residential and commercial customers in the PSE&G service area. This area includes all or parts of the counties of Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic and Union.
Though both companies offer both electricity and natural gas in several deregulated states, Respond Power will serve electric customers and Major Energy will serve natural gas customers that opt for their services.
Customers were able to switch as early as December 3, 2012 to take advantage of variable rates below what the default utility, PG&E, is offering, currently around 11 cents/kWh for electricity. Fixed-rate plans–whereby customers can lock in one low rate to avoid fluctuating rates—are expected to roll out in early 2013.
Major Energy and Respond Power were both established in 2005 as retail electricity and natural gas providers serving New England states. Since their inceptions, the companies have grown to serve the deregulated energy markets of Illinois, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and now New Jersey.
