The Ohio Manufacturers' Association has offered a new option for members to help lower electricity rates through more competitive pricing.
Ohio has continued to steadily increase competition between electricity providers, generally resulting in lower electricity bills for many residents.
But for manufacturers who make use of far larger amounts of electricity, even the slightest change in electricity rates can mean the difference between success and failure in a competitive marketplace. With that in mind, the OMA has partnered with Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy Solutions to provide another option for manufacturers to compare electricity prices.
"Manufacturing matters, and the health of any economy is reflected by the manufacturing sector," Julie Hextell, senior vice president of retail sales and marketing for FirstEnergy Solutions, said in a statement. " A large portion of any manufacturer's operational budget is committed to energy costs, so controlling those costs with a favorable electric generation price is critical."
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio reports that the rate of customers choosing to switch electricity providers in the state varies from utility to utility, but that commercial and industrial customers consistently make the change at higher rates, as businesses look to better control their costs.
