The brand-new Facebook data center in Papillion, NE will be powered by 100% wind energy. Construction has started on the Rattlesnake Creek wind warm in Dixon County, NE that will have a 320 Mw Capacity. Over the 320 megawatts, Facebook has a purchase order for 200 megawatts for their data center.
Facebook’s director of global energy, Bobby Hollis, said that the business was now “one step closer to our goal of powering all of our operations with clean and renewable energy.”
Rattlesnake Creek Wind Project will own the wind farm and invest $430 million in its construction. Rattlesnake Creek Wind Project is a subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America.
The Enel site will produce roughly 1.3 terawatt-hours per year when fully operational. This will be enough to meet the “equivalent annual consumption needs” of over 105,000 U.S. homes, Enel said, helping to avoid the emission of around 940,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
“We are thrilled to be able to support Facebook’s growing renewable energy needs in Nebraska and be a part of driving economic development in the region,” Antonio Cammisecra, the head of Enel Green Power, said in a statement.
According to the US Department of Energy, the US is one of the worlds largest producers of wind energy. This project expands Enel’s wind energy into a new state and creates a new partnership with one of the largest companies in the world.
