El Paso has a desert-like climate with very hot and dry summers. In order to keep cool, many residents need to use more energy than the rest of the state during the summer months. As a state, Texas leads the nation is energy consumption. They rank 6th in the country in energy usage per capita. The bulk of energy consumed in the state is natural gas.
