Springfield, Il is located in the center part of the state of Illinois. Most of its surroundings is acres of rural farmland. Many of these farms produce corn that is then turned into ethanol making Illinois the national leader in ethanol production. Illinois also leads the nation in electricity generated from nuclear power. There are 23 active coal mines in Illinois that contribute to nearly 40% of the energy production in the state.
