Usage: Chicago, IL 60621
While the state of Illinois consumes less energy than the national average, Chicago residents do not follow that trend. In the summer months, Chicago residents consume over 20% more electricity than the national average and over 25% more than the rest of Illinois. This can be attributed to the urban heat of city that can trap heat in and cause urban populations to be 1-3 degrees warmer on a given day causing residents to use more energy to cool their homes. Chicago residents also use more energy in the winter months due to the frigid Midwest winters. See the graph below for detailed Chicago energy usage throughout the year.
